The school office will reopen on Monday, August 27th. During the week of August 27th to August 31st, the office will be open between 9:00 am and 2:00 pm.

New Registrations
New Student Registration will be on August 28th from 9:00 am-2:30 pm. Please be sure to bring your child’s birth certificate and Care Card and Proof of Residency (ie. a document, utility bill, driver’s licence with your name and address on it) when registering your student.
Classes will be back in session on Tuesday, September 4th.
First Day of School
Students will return to their previous year teacher’s classroom on the first day of school. Once we determine if any students have moved away or are new to the school. Our hope is to have students placed in their new classes by the second day. Once our final number of divisions are confirmed for the 2018-19 school year the SD No. 83 Director of Instruction will give the school permission to place the students in their new classrooms. Our goal is to post class lists in the evening of Tuesday, September 4, 2018.

Time To Say Goodbye……
On Tuesday (10:30) we will celebrate the 25 year career of Sheila Malashewsky as well as our Celebration Assembly. On Thursday (8:30) we will celebrate the career of Lori George and say good bye to our grade 5 students! We will also be thanking the many people that support our school with their helping hands!

Red or White Day-June 21
The students and staff will be creating a Living Flag with the help of the City of Armstrong! Students are to wear red or white clothing (not both) and we will create the flag based on an outline the city will paint on the area between the intermediate soccer field and the adventures- on Thursday night.

Please join us for this wonderful celebration of the completion of our three year partnership with wild BC adn Kim Fulton. Our focus on Outdoor Learning is a direct result of Kim’s influence and guidance and this was possible with the Wild BC support!
New Principal, Mrs. Langston, visits June 11 and will Attend June 13 PAC Meeting!
Mrs. Langston will be spending the day at AES June 11. She will meet all the students and spend time with staff. If you are able-stop by and say hello! She will also attend Wednesday’s PAC meeting!
Boil Water Advisory is Over!
Thank you to the district and PAC for supplying water coolers and water bottles. Please send your child to school with water bottles for Monday and Tuesday for sure. We will update after the water test on Tuesday! Thank you!
Mobile Dairy Visits -June 6th
You will see the mobile dairy in our bus lane on Wednesday. Some of our classes will have a 1/2 hour presentation.

Welcoming our newest AES Citizens!
At 12:30 on Tuesday, we will be meeting our September 2018 kindergarten students. We are so excited to introduce them to our school and meet all our new families!
Bike, Bikes and more Bikes!
It is Bike week at AES! We have Jorin, a volunteer from Sunnybrae Cysles, joining us this week to provide three lessons to each of our grade 3-5 classes. As well, he will assist with our Bike Rodeo, for grade 1 and 2 students, on Thursday. A huge thank you to all the parent volunteers. BIKE DROP OFF MONDAY, MAY 28 AT THE GYM!
May 24th- Celebration Assembly
Sarah and her service dog Ricoh, visited AES. Together, they demonstrated some of the tasks Ricoh does to assist her! At one point in the assembly, Ricoh picked up keys Sarah had dropped on the floor. He picked them up in his mouth and gently stepped on the foot rest of her wheelchair. He then delicately dropped the keys in Sarah’s lap! There was a resounding AGHHH from all of us! Two other PADs dogs were at the assembly as well. Everyone applauded as Kai Metcalfe and his Mom, Sarah Whitehead, donated the $150.00 raised from Tuesday’s bake sale to PADS! It was a wonderful assembly!

May 22 bring your loonies to help raise funds for PADS-the organization that trains service dogs, like our Sunny! On May 24 at 10:30 we will be hosting our Celebration Assembly and presenting the funds raised to Brain Smith our contact person with PADS. As well, a special guest will be present who uses a service dog to enrich her life and allow her independence. Feel free to join us!
Changes for September 2018
People may be hearing the news….I am moving to LWMS as Principal for September 2018. I will be writing a letter home on Tuesday as the announcement was made later in the day and I was unable to communicate to parents or students. I am very pleased to announce that Corrinne Langston will be the new Principal. More information to follow on Tuesday. My heart is sad to leave AES but excited about the new challenge!
Spring Festival and Family Picnic-

Our annual celebration is almost here! We have been practicing the Brick School Song and other musical presentations. In addition, the traditional Maypole dance will be performed. We will host the event in the front of our beautiful brick school! We will honor and show gratitude for our Breakfast parents, One to One Coordinators and our PAC! At 11:30 we will have a family picnic on our picturesque playground. Come join us!

May 10th -District Cross Country Run at the Field of Dreams
Our Cross Country club will be competing on Thursday. They leave at 11:30 for Salmon Arm. A huge thank you to the staff sponsors: Mr. Belec, Mrs. Brown and Ms. George. It’s wonderful to see all the students doing their personal best!

AES/HPE Cross Country Run- Wednesday May 2nd!
The run will occur at 12:30. Parents are welcome to join!
May 3 at 10:30am- Revelstoke Band visits
We will enjoy a performance from the Revelstoke Band on Thursday. Later in the month the LWMS Band will visit as well.
Cross Country Run- Wednesday April 25th!
All AES students will have the opportunity to run in the annual Brick Run Wednesday April 25 at 12:30 pm. Parents are welcome to join us for the pride building event! Our AES Cross Country Club runners have been practicing Tuesdays and Thursdays after school. Next week, May 1st at 12:30 HPE Cross Country runners will join us for a race at 12:30pm!
EARTH WEEK AT AES!
Our Wild BC Scientist, Kim Fulton, will be joining us April 18th, Wednesday, for tree plug planting in the adventures and on April 19, Thursday, for the Salmon Simulation Game. All classes have been reviewing the salmon life cycle in preparation. Schedules were sent home and we are hoping parents can join us! During the week, when convenient, teachers will also be doing community garbage cleanup with their classes. We are proud of our students’ love for the outdoors and our planet Earth!
“We don’t inherit the Earth, we are simply caretakers for the next generation” ….it’s important to educate the next generation when they are young so they grow up respecting our Earth! Hope you can join us this upcoming week!
AES Cross Country running begins…..
Starting on Thursday April 5th, classes will be running outside. We will have an AES Cross Country Running Meet for all students-April 25, then for our Club members only, a meet with HPE -May 2 and a final meet in Salmon Arm May 10!
AES Showcase of Talent!
Lights, camera and action…. our annual display of AES Talent on March 16th was a major hit!! A huge thank you to Sheila Malashewsky, Tanya Normandeau, Michelle Nicholson and Kyla Kalf for all their efforts and of course our many stars!
Outdoor Learning Fundraiser- A Huge Success!
PAC recently raised over $5000.00 for Outdoor Learning, one of our AES goals! The community support was amazing! See the list of sponsors below. Four Moms. in particular, worked very hard on this fundraiser- Tia Wagner, Corinna Hoodicoff, Kate Melvin and Jen Boone! We are so grateful! Thank you!
Pink Shirt Day!
Pink Shirt Day was February 28th! To support this powerful awareness day, we encouraged our students to wear a pink shirt! We also made a pink ice heart to remind us to be kind!
In our assembly a grade one friendship group, under the direction of Mrs. Southworth our Learning Resource Teacher, shared a vide they had made about the book One! In the book the color Blue is a quiet color. Red’s a hothead who likes to pick on Blue. Yellow, Orange, Green, and Purple don’t like what they see, but what can they do? When no one speaks up, things get out of hand — until One comes along and shows all the colors how to stand up, stand together, and count.
In addition, the whole school sang the song by Bruno Mars, You Can Count On Me! The lyrics of the song include….You can count on me like one two three
I’ll be there
And I know when I need it I can count on you like four three two
You’ll be there
‘Cause that’s what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
As well, the students were able to choose to repeat and sign a pledge…
the pledge was….I believe that positive actions make positive change.
I will do my best to treat others with respect and kindness.
I will speak up.
I will take a stand when I see kids embarrassing or hurting each other.
Stopping bullying begins with me.
Overall, it was a very powerful day- especially with the sea of pink shirts in the gym. We all left with hearts full of pride for our caring and respectful AES students!!
It’s a SUNNY day at AES!
Sunny, our PADS service dog, visits Tuesdays and Fridays. He is often seen with our Counselor Jonaire Bowyer-Smythe. Together, they spread sunshine at our school and help our students manage their worries and self-regulate. We are grateful for Sunny!
